Vacuum glass helps your facade free of visual distortion
Curtain wall, door and window engineering projects have decreased, especially since 2019, and shortage of funds has become very common. Some real estate developers and construction parties always like to delay payment or ask discount with some quality problems,in which facade glass distortion is the best choice. There are many reasons for glass distortion,it is generally difficult to distinguish the specific reasons for the distortion of glass imaging, so it is often attributed to “tempering deformation”.

Factors caused facade visual distortion
-
Raw Materials.
A.Float Glass quality:
The glass image we usually see is the image that is reflected back through the glass. The optical distortion of float glass is measured by the zebra angle. China float glass standard requires that the zebra angle of architectural glass be 50 degrees, and that of automotive and mirror glass requires 60 degrees or more. Some high quality float glass Zebra angle reach 70 degrees. Architectural glass used in facade has generally 45 and 65 degrees, bad quality float glass will affect the final facade visual distortion.

B.Tempering process.
After tempering process, glass will have overall bow and local bow.The distortion in the tempering process does have a greater impact on imaging.
If the tempered glass overall bow is controlled to 1‰, local bow below 0.15mm, and then the longer side parallel to the rod, the final deformation can be well controlled.

Glass flatness after tempering process will affect facade visual distortion
C.Insulating process.
The contraction and expansion of insulated glass has a great influence on the image deformation. Under normal circumstances, the air contains 1-4% water vapor, the greater the humidity, the more water vapor content. The desiccant absorbs most of the water vapor sealed in the glass, the insulating glass often appears contraction.

horizontal sealing process will affect igu flatness
When sealing large panel IGU,IGU are always placed horizontally, the upper panel will fall because of weight reason and also caused contraction.

Glass Design.
A.Glass thickness.
The thicker glass, the high rigidity, and the smaller the imaging distortion under the same circumstances.
B.Reflectivity
The higher the light reflectance, the clearer the image of the glass. In fact, it is easier to see the deformation.

C.aspect ratio
The glass aspect ratio is too large and it is easy to produce distortion, while the aspect ratio is too close to 1:1, the bottom shape of the pot is easy to appear. The best aspect ratio is generally considered to be 2:1.

Environmental reason.
For insulated glass, the air in the cavity expands or contracts under the influence of temperature, pressure, etc.
A.Air Temperature change.
When the air temperature inside insulated glass increases or decreases by 15 degrees, the volume of the air sealed will expand or contract by 5%.
B.Atmospheric pressure and altitude change.
When the altitude increases by 610m, the atmospheric pressure decreases by 1Psi (6900N/㎡); from another perspective, for every 610m increase in altitude, for 610*1220mm hollow glass, This is equivalent to applying approximately 520 kg of pressure to each piece of glass from the inside of the glass.
In order to avoid the deformation of the insulating glass caused by the change of air pressure, it is generally recommended to add capillary tubes to the insulating glass when the altitude difference between the manufacturing place and the place of use exceeds 610m.

Installation
A.Installation force
If force acts on the glass during the installation process, the glass panel will be deformed, which will affect the imaging.
B.Installation flatness
The horizontality and verticality of the glass during installation affect the imaging effect of the single glass.
C.Imaging environment
If regular geometric figures (buildings ) are reflected on glass surface,the image distortion seen is the most obvious;

With above analysis,we can get the conclusion that float glass quality, glass tempering quality, the air inside the insulated glass are the main reason causing facade glass visual distortion, then how vacuum insulating glass can help you get rid of the bothering facade visual distortion?
How vacuum glass avoid visual distortion.
High quality raw float glass quality.
The float glass used are usually high quality float glass used to produce auto glass or mirrors, with high zebra angles.
Some project owners prefer low iron glass, especially Jinjing low iron glass is specified, which not only ensure the high zebra angles, but also brings better visual effect to the facade.

High tempering requirement and perfect flatness.
As the vacuum spacing is 0.3mm between the 2 panels,if glass overall bow and local bow is bigger, the micro supporting pillars will misplace or drop,so the flatness of tempered glass is really high.
Our vacuum glass panels are tempered with Glaston tempering furnace, glass overall bow requirement is below 1‰ to ensure the even pressure on pillars and absolute flat surface.

No contraction or expansion exist.
For IGU,the air or argon inside will cause expansion or contraction caused by temperature or altitude. While vacuum insulating glass, as there’s vacuum space exist, the vacuum won’t volume and dimension won’t change and won’t affected by the temperature and altitude.
Think and light facilitate installation.
Compared with double glass and triple glass units whose thickness is always above 24mm and really heavy especially when glass unit area over 3sqm.
Vacuum insulating glass is very thin, usually 10.3mm,even vacuum laminated glass ,thickness is just 16.82mm,it facilitate the installation teams to handle and control the installation flatness.
High equivalent thickness.
When design the facade, the exterior panels (6mm,8mm,or 10mm) is the thickness to resist the wind load, live load and other load, for vacuum insulating glass,as there’s only 0.3mm vacuum space, the vacuum glass can be treated and calculated as one single piece, its equivalent thickness is 85% of glass total thickness.
Which means for 10.3mm tempered vacuum glass, the glass strength is equivalent to 8.5mm monolithic tempered glass, with better rigidity and strength, the visual distortion is better.
