Glass to be tempered first but when sealing glass edge,the already tempered glass will anneal under high temperature and back to normal anneal glass.

In China,several VIG glass manufacturers has broken the limits and using more advanced metal edge sealing technology which will not cause glass anneal,for example Landvac,HaanGlas.

Tempered vacuum glass will meet ANSI-Z97.1 requirement and keep integrity in podium impact test,which will offer better safety performance and protect people&property,which also enable VIG to be used in high rise buildings.

Even though tempered vacuum insulating glass has high impact resistance,but the micro support pillars will create “vacuum star” which has high compression,so fabricator should balance the overall strength and the pillar positioning.

Larger Vacuum Insulating Glass

Now typical max sizes for vacuum glass is 1500*2500mm,which cannot fit all requirement.

Even though vacuum glass cannot be processed with holes or notches and used as structural glass,but in future more and more curtain walls with up to 3.2m height will require vacuum glass.

When  glass becomes bigger,the edge sealing effect cannot be controlled very well and larger glass need thicker glass,for example 8+8 and 10+10,the glass heating& cooling process also numerous test to confirm the final parameter and high conforming ratio.

As we mentioned before,vacuum glass pricing is affected by below factors:

  • Initial research&equipment investment,the low market requirement and huge initial investment will bring up final price.
  • Finished glass ratio.Now mots VIG fabricators can reach 85-90% finished ratio.
  • Glass production efficiency. Most VIG manufacturers daily output is only 100-300sqm.
  • Glass Combination.Further lamination or IGU processwill affect final price.

Beside that,the glass solders or silk screen inks has high costs,especially when it contain no lead,and contain up to 85% silver elements,Typical vacuum insulating glass marketing price is USD150-200/SQM,

The key point is to increase the market scale and production efficiency.Once the daily out reach about 400-500sqm which is equivalent to normal insulated glass,price will decrease significantly and much more affordable for more customers.

Applying vacuum glass in facades bring much benefits,such as extremely low thermal conductivity,save facade overall weight, uniform U value, no visual distortion ,create silent environment,easy maintenance and long lifetime.

While facade glass also has higher requirement,especially wind load,test shows that single glazing vacuum insulating glass can withstand up to ±7200Mpa wind load and absolutely safe for facade.

Once glass is further processed to be laminated VIG,or hybrid VIG,the edge thermal conductivity, overall impact resistance&wind resistance, can be further increased and more safe.

Higher thermal performance

China is the leading in VIG industry,fabricators there not only developed tempered glass,but also create the lowest U value.

Typical VIG U value is 0.7-1.0W/M2.K,but HaanGlas tested U value is 0.47W/M2.K based on China standard GB/T22476,and once been applied in windows,overall windows U value is only 0.89W/M2.K.

In future,HaanGlas will try to produce VIG with triple silver low-E ,such as solarban 70XL,Solarban 90, when keeping high light transmittance,triple silver low-E VIG can have lower U value and better SHGC.
