Energy-saving glass includes normal insulating glass, solar control coated insulated glass,low-emissivity coating (Low.E) insulating glass, low-emissivity coating vacuum glass.
Vacuum glass is two or more glass separated by micro supports, with sealed edges and creating a vacuum space between the glass Layers.
Typical vacuum glass structure is shown in above figure,with the development of processing technology,evacuation holes can be removed to further increase the vacuum insulating glass performance.
- No evacuation holescan ensure that every piece glass has the same U value. For other VIG manufacturers,there’s always some air back into the glass before sealing the hole,as glass size&area are different,so it’s hard to ensure the same stable U value.
- No evacuation holescan ensure uniform glass strength. For others,manufacturers have to drill holes on glass which will result in high stress around the holes and cause higher glass breakage ratio.
- The end caps bring difficulty in packing,handling and installation and always become the main reason for glass failure.

Vacuum glass,whose thickness is equivalent and even thinner than laminated glass,achieve much better thermal insulation performance of 42mm triple glass units with 2 layer dual silver low-E coating.
Triple glass units are always used in passive house windows ,it’s heavy,thick and low light transmittance,but VIG units has below improvement:
- Light transmittance increase by 12%
- Thickness is 75% thinner.
- Glass is 50% lighter.
- U value is 20% better.

With 95 and even more thick thermal break aluminium windows,combining with triple glass units,the overall windows U value can achieve the passive house standard <1.1W/M2.K .
With hybrid vacuum insulating glass (U value reach 0.4w/m2.k) ,combing with only 65 series fibre-reinforced windows （FRP windows),U value can achieve 0.89W/M2.K. 30-40% costs can be saved as well.
